Anyone who has served in the U.S. Navy can tell you that walking across the quarterdeck of a warship for the first time is a daunting experience. There is much to learn, and a sailor will have to give his best in order to live up to the trust that has been placed in him by the Navy and his fellow shipmates. In addition, any new man aboard is expected to have an understanding of his ship’s namesake, and what that name represents to the Command, the Navy and this country.
